Obama Orders 1 Million US Troops to Prepare for Civil War
Russian Military Analysts are reporting to Prime Minister Putin that US President Barack Obama has issued orders to his Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM) top leader, US Air Force General Gene Renuart, to “begin immediately” increasing his military forces to 1 million troops by January 30, 2010, in what these reports warn is an expected outbreak of civil war within the United States before the end of winter.
According to these reports, Obama has had over these past weeks “numerous” meetings with his war council about how best to manage the expected implosion of his Nations banking system while at the same time attempting to keep the United States military hegemony over the World in what Russian Military Analysts state is a “last ditch gambit” whose success is “far from certain”.

By CYNTHIA R. FAGEN
An upstate graduate student was charged yesterday with stabbing a beloved anthropology professor to death.
Saudi national Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani, 46, was held without bail for the murder of Binghamton University professor Richard Antoun, 77, an expert on comparative religion, authorities said.
Al-Zahrani, a cultural-anthropology grad student, allegedly pulled out a six-inch kitchen knife and stabbed Antoun four times in the chest in the professor’s campus office Friday.
Student Devin Sheppard said the suspect was at the scene when cops arrived.
“The police asked the grad student, ‘Did you just stab him?’ and he said, ‘Yes.’ “
Gov. Paterson said Antoun would “live on in his writing, his research, and in his students, whose lives he forever changed.”
PROMISES, PROMISES: A closed meeting on
By SHARON THEIMER
WASHINGTON — It’s hardly the image of transparency the Obama administration wants to project: A workshop on government openness is closed to the public.
The event Monday for federal employees is a fitting symbol of President Barack Obama’s uneven record so far on the Freedom of Information Act, a big part of keeping his campaign promise to make his administration the most transparent ever. As Obama’s first year in office ends, the government’s actions when the public and press seek information are not yet matching up with the president’s words.
“The Freedom of Information Act should be administered with a clear presumption: In the face of doubt, openness prevails,” Obama told government offices on his first full day as president. “The government should not keep information confidential merely because public officials might be embarrassed by disclosure, because errors and failures might be revealed, or because of speculative or abstract fears.”
Obama scored points on his pledge by requiring the release of detailed information about $787 billion in economic stimulus spending. It’s now available on a Web site, http://www.recovery.gov. Other notable disclosures include waivers that the White House has granted from Obama’s conflict-of-interest rules and reports detailing Obama’s and top appointees’ personal finances.
Yet on some important issues, his administration produced information only after government watchdogs and reporters spent weeks or months pressing, in some cases suing.
Black in the Age of Obama
A hundred and fifty years ago, Charles Dickens opened “A Tale of Two Cities” with the now-famous phrase: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. …”
Charles M. Blow
Those words resonated with me recently while contemplating the impact of the Obama presidency on blacks in America. So far, it’s been mixed. Blacks are living a tale of two Americas — one of the ascension of the first black president with the cultural capital that accrues; the other of a collapsing quality of life and amplified racial tensions, while supporting a president who is loath to even acknowledge their pain, let alone commiserate in it.
Last year, blacks dared to dream anew, envisioning a future in which Obama’s election would be the catalyst for an era of prosperity and more racial harmony. Now that the election’s afterglow has nearly faded, the hysteria of hope is being ground against the hard stone of reality. Things have not gotten better. In many ways, they’ve gotten worse.
The recession, for one, has dealt a particularly punishing and uneven hand to blacks.
A May report from the Pew Research Center found that blacks were the most likely to get higher-priced subprime loans, leading to higher foreclosure rates. In fact, blacks have displaced Hispanics as the group with the lowest homeownership rates.
According to the most recent jobs data, not only is the unemployment rate for blacks nearly twice that of whites, the gap in some important demographics has widened rapidly since Obama took office. The unemployment rate over that time for white college graduates under 24 years old grew by about 20 percent. For their black cohorts, the rate grew by about twice that much.
And a report published last month by the Department of Agriculture found that in 2008, “food insecurity” for American households had risen to record levels, with black children being the most likely to experience that food insecurity.
Things on the racial front are just as bad.
We are now inundated with examples of overt racism on a scale to which we are unaccustomed. Any protester with a racist poster can hijack a news cycle, while a racist image can live forever on the Internet. In fact, racially offensive images of the first couple are so prolific online that Google now runs an apologetic ad with the results of image searches of them.
And it’s not all words and images; it’s actions as well. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2008 hate crimes data released last week, anti-black hate crimes rose 4 percent from 2007, while the combined hate crimes against all other racial categories declined 11 percent. If you look at the two-year trend, which would include Obama’s ascension as a candidate, anti-black hate crimes have risen 8 percent, while those against the other racial groups have fallen 19 percent.
This has had a sobering effect on blacks. According to a Nov. 9 report from Gallup, last summer 23 percent of blacks thought that race relations would get a lot better with the election of Obama. Now less than half that percentage says that things have actually gotten a lot better.
The racial animosity that Obama’s election has stirred up may have contributed to a rallying effect among blacks. According to a Gallup report published on Nov. 24, Obama’s approval rating among whites has dropped to 39 percent, but among blacks it remains above 90 percent.
Also, this hasn’t exactly been a good year for black men in the news. Plaxico Burress was locked up for accidentally shooting off a gun in a club. Henry Louis Gates Jr. was locked up for intentionally shooting off his mouth at his own home. And Michael Jackson died after being shot full of propofol. Chris Brown brutally beat Rihanna. Former Representative William Jefferson was convicted. And most recently, the “personal failings” of Tiger Woods portray him as an alley cat. Meanwhile, the most critically acclaimed black movie of the year, “Precious,” features a black man who rapes and twice impregnates his own daughter. Rooting for the president feels like a nice counterbalance.
However, the rallying creates a conundrum for blacks: how to air anxiety without further arming Obama’s enemies. This dilemma has rendered blacks virtually voiceless on some pressing issues at a time when their voices would have presumably held greater sway.
This means that Obama can get away with doing almost nothing to specifically address issues important to African-Americans and instead focus on the white voters he’s losing in droves. This has not gone unnoticed. In the Nov. 9 Gallup poll, the number of blacks who felt that Obama would not go far enough in promoting efforts to aid the black community jumped 60 percent from last summer to now.
The hard truth is that Obama needs white voters more than he needs black ones.
Blagojevich evidence stolen from his lawyers’ offices
Chicago police were investigating a burglary at the offices of attorneys for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in which at least one computer containing undercover recordings from the sweeping corruption case was stolen, sources said.
The break-in took place about 4 a.m. at the law offices of Sam Adam and his son, Sam Adam Jr., in the 6100 block of South Ellis Avenue, police and Sam Adam Jr. said.
Contrary to early statements by a police News Affairs officer who referred calls regarding the burglary to the FBI, the FBI is not involved in the investigation, FBI Chicago office spokesman Ross Rice said in a statement.
The burglars set off an alarm but escaped the area. Investigative sources said there are no suspects.
Chicago police said eight computers and a safe were taken from the office, but they could not say what information the computers contained.
“It could be a happenstance burglary. All leads will be followed,” said Chicago Police Deputy Supt. Steve Peterson.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago declined to comment on the incident or the theft of evidence in the case.
It is unclear if the burglary could delay Blagojevich’s trial scheduled for June.
The younger Adam confirmed the burglary this afternoon but said everything that was taken is backed up on other computers in his offices.
“We did have some computers stolen, and we will not speculate on any motivation that might be behind it,” Adam said. “We’re trying to determine now what they did and did not take.”
Adam said his team is hopeful that the burglary won’t delay the case.
“We are already back to work,” Adam said. “We’re not going to let this slow us down and slow down the truth (from) coming out – that the governor did nothing wrong.”
Adam said his office is not equipped with video surveillance. Investigators have said they had not yet determined whether the burglars knew what the computers contained or simply took them to make a quick buck.

I have come to the conclusion that the real reason this gifted communicator (Pres: Obama) has become so bad at communicating is that he doesn’t really believe a word that he is saying
As Hillary and Gates fan out to explain what Obama really meant the other night, it’s becoming clear that the “Great Communicator’s” skills are breaking down.
It’s a strange paradox for a great wordsmith, but whenever Obama makes an important policy speech these days he leaves everyone totally confused. His first health-care press conference back in July triggered a season of raucous political Rorschach and left his hopeful followers utterly baffled about what they were being asked to support. Now White House envoys are being dispatched all over the globe to explain what the president really meant about the date when troops will or won’t be pulled out of Afghanistan. Hillary, you go to the Hill! Take Gates and Adm. Mullen with you. Holbrooke, off to Brussels! And you, Gen. Petraeus, you go on 360 and hit Anderson Cooper with jargony dog whistle caveats like “the pace of the drawdown is conditions-based.”
I have come to the conclusion that the real reason this gifted communicator has become so bad at communicating is that he doesn’t really believe a word that he is saying.
Does Obama create confusion on purpose? Is this his “process” based on his confession that he’s a screen onto which people project things? Is it a strategy so that whatever bill trickles out of Congress or however many soldiers linger in Afghanistan, he can claim that the outcome is what he meant it all along? (Clinton and Gates assured nervous senators on the Hill Thursday that the August 2011 deadline was both firm and flexible, and that this position was, in Gates’ words, “not contradictory” in the least.) Or is it that for all the administration’s vaunted mastery of multiplatform communication, Rahm and Gibbs and company are actually amateurs at crafting a clear political message and launching it on the dazed American public?
Or is it that there is so much subtext to every part of this message that the simple heads of the electorate are just not pointy enough to comprehend it?
I have come to the conclusion that the real reason this gifted communicator has become so bad at communicating is that he doesn’t really believe a word that he is saying. He couldn’t convey that health-care reform would be somehow cost-free because he knows it won’t be. And he can’t adequately convey either the imperatives or the military strategy of the war in Afghanistan because he doesn’t really believe in it either. He feels colonized by mistakes of the past. He feels trapped by the hand that has been dealt him.

The White House indicated it will fight any congressional attempts to subpoena an administration official to testify about the security breach at last week’s state dinner.
Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.), the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, threatened to subpoena White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers to discuss how Tareq and Michaele Salahi got into the event.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs pointed out White House officials only testify before Congress on rare occasions like Watergate, the Sept. 11 attacks and Whitewater.
He said King would not have the “audacity” to make the case that two uninvited people sneaking into a state dinner is on the same footing as those subjects.
“I don’t think even Peter King would have the audacity to include the Salahis in the trifecta of Watergate, 9/11 or some of the financial dealings,” Gibbs said.
Rogers declined to testify at Thursday’s Homeland Security Committee hearing on the security breach.
King accused the administration of being less than forthcoming in discussing Rogers’s role at the dinner.
At the start of Thursday’s hearing, King lambasted the White House for not providing Rogers’s testimony.
He once again issued a subpoena threat and said the White House was not being cooperative with Congress in examining the incident.
“I think it’s wrong,” King said. “In this instance, they are stonewalling.”
Gibbs said there is a long history of White House advisers being free to provide unfettered, confidential advice to presidents without fear of subpoena.
Rogers became subject to criticism after it was revealed no staff member from the White House social office was present at the East Gate portico entrance when the Salahis and other guests arrived.
“Who made the decision? Why was the decision made to have no one from the White House Social Office there?” King said at the hearing.
Like Rogers, the Salahis also declined to testify at Thursday’s hearing but Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) would not rule out subpoenaing the couple.

Liberals warn Obama that base may skip midterm elections
Prominent liberal activists are warning Democratic leaders that they face a problem with the party’s base heading into an election year.
The latest issue to roil relations between President Barack Obama and the liberal wing of the party is his decision to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, which liberals fear could become a debacle like Vietnam.
The left is also concerned the administration and party leaders have drifted too far to the center or are caving in to non-liberal interest groups in key policy battles, including healthcare reform, climate change and energy reform and financial regulatory reform. In some cases, liberals fear the White House is backing away entirely from core issues, such as the closing of the Guantánamo Bay detention camp and ending the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that prevents gays and lesbians form serving openly in the military.
“I think there’s a growing concern that Washington is losing battles to entrenched lobbying interests and the administration is not effectively in charge and a sense that things aren’t going well,” said Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future, a liberal advocacy group
“I think the Democratic base is getting a little nervous out there about where we’re headed,” said Sen. Tom Harkin (Iowa), a leading liberal within the Senate Democratic Conference who shares concerns over Obama’s commitment of troops to the Afghan war
White House Party Crashers Won’t Testify Before Congress, Could Face Subpoenas
By Chad Pergram
The couple who crashed a White House state dinner last week is declining to testify at a hearing on the controversy to be held Thursday by the House Homeland Security Committee, as the chairman of the committee threatened to subpoena them.
The panel is investigating the security breach that apparently enabled Tareq and Michaele Salahi
to pass through security checkpoints and pose for pictures with President Obama and Vice President Biden — despite not being on the White House’s guest list.
The Secret Service has acknowledged that the Salahis
got into the Nov. 24 dinner because its security procedures at a checkpoint were not followed.
The couple insisted in a TV interview that they were invited to the dinner. But e-mails between the Salahis and a friend who works at the Pentagon show they had tried to obtain an invitation but never were cleared to attend the exclusive party.
Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan
will testify, but the White House has rejected an invitation extended to Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, who was in charge of the guest list.
House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told Fox News the committee will decide Thursday as to whether the panel will attempt to compel the attendance of the Salahis. He said he intends to pursue that option, because their testimony is “important to explain how a couple circumvented layers of security” at the state dinner
.
The Salahis’ attorney met with Homeland Security staff Thursday afternoon.
In a statement released late Wednesday night through their spokeswoman Mahogny Jones, “The Salahis said that they felt they had provided all relevant information to the committee and there is nothing further that they can do to assist Congress in its inquiry regarding White House protocol and certain security procedures. They therefore respectfully decline to testify.”

Yahoo, Verizon: Our Spy Capabilities Would ‘Shock’, ‘Confuse’ Consumers
Want to know how much phone companies and internet service providers charge to funnel your private communications or records to U.S. law enforcement and spy agencies?
That’s the question muckraker and Indiana University graduate student Christopher Soghoian asked all agencies within the Department of Justice, under a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed a few months ago. But before the agencies could provide the data, Verizon and Yahoo intervened and filed an objection on grounds that, among other things, they would be ridiculed and publicly shamed were their surveillance price sheets made public.
Yahoo writes in its 12-page objection letter (.pdf), that if its pricing information were disclosed to Soghoian, he would use it “to ’shame’ Yahoo! and other companies — and to ’shock’ their customers.”
“Therefore, release of Yahoo!’s information is reasonably likely to lead to impairment of its reputation for protection of user privacy and security, which is a competitive disadvantage for technology companies,” the company writes.
Verizon took a different stance. It objected to the release (.pdf) of its Law Enforcement Legal Compliance Guide because it might “confuse” customers and lead them to think that records and surveillance capabilities available only to law enforcement would be available to them as well — resulting in a flood of customer calls to the company asking for trap and trace orders.
“Customers may see a listing of records, information or assistance that is available only to law enforcement,” Verizon writes in its letter, “but call in to Verizon and seek those same services. Such calls would stretch limited resources, especially those that are reserved only for law enforcement emergencies.”
Other customers, upon seeing the types of surveillance law enforcement can do, might “become unnecessarily afraid that their lines have been tapped or call Verizon to ask if their lines are tapped (a question we cannot answer).”
Ahmadinejad: Israel, the West ‘Can’t Do a Damn Thing’ to Stop Us
(IsraelNN.com) For the third time this week, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made it clear that his country will not curb its nuclear program regardless of international opposition.
Iranian government media claimed on Wednesday that Ahmadinejad addressed cheering crowds in Isfahan regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. “In our opinion,” he declared, “the nuclear issue has come to an end and our nation will not negotiate [it].” Instead, he continued, Iran will independently produce 20-percent enriched nuclear fuel to supply a Tehran nuclear reactor.
Israel and its leaders, Ahmadinejad added, are meaningless and “can not do a damn thing” to stop Iran.
Ahmadinejad further claimed that his regime made the decision to independently supply its needs after the International Atomic Energy Agency refused to supply Iran with 20-percent enriched uranium fuel. However, Iran recently rejected a deal worked out with the U.N. in which the Iranian uranium would be enriched abroad and shipped back to Iran for those energy and medical uses which they claim to be pursuing.
“We have declared to the world that the international organizations are being ruled by corrupt powers,” Ahmadinejad is quoted as saying.
‘No One Can Isolate Iran’
On Tuesday night, the Iranian leader declared that his nation “is not obligated to report to the IAEA about nuclear facilities it is building, rather just about technology it imports.” He called the efforts to isolate Iran over its refusal to cooperate with international oversight of its nuclear program “psychological warfare waged by the Western nations. Iran is a unique nation and no other country can isolate it. Sanctions will have no effect on Iran.”
In reaction to Russia’s decision to support the IAEA position against Iran, Ahmadinejad said, “Russia made a mistake in supporting the anti-Iranian decision and we believe that their analysis in this matter was mistaken.”
FACT CHECK: Obama overlooks some tough realities
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama’s speech Tuesday night did not always match the reality on the ground in Afghanistan. The president raised expectations that may be hard to meet when he told Americans his troop increase in Afghanistan will accelerate the training of that country’s own forces and be accompanied by more help from allies.
A look at some of his claims and how they compare with the facts:
OBAMA: “Because this is an international effort, I have asked that our commitment be joined by contributions from our allies. Some have already provided additional troops, and we are confident that there will be further contributions in the days and weeks ahead.”
THE FACTS: When Obama says he is confident that allied countries will provide more troops in the weeks ahead he is setting aside years of mostly empty-handed American efforts to get others, including allies in NATO, to deepen their commitment to combat in Afghanistan.
One reason, which Obama did not mention, is that other countries, particularly those in Europe, have viewed the conflict — and its likely solution — much differently than Washington. They have seen it primarily as a humanitarian and reconstruction mission, rather than a counterinsurgency fight. And they have pushed for greater nonmilitary means of addressing Afghanistan’s instability.
For a time there also was a European sense of hangover from the U.S. invasion of Iraq and a perceived go-it-alone bent by the Bush administration.
Obama is technically correct in anticipating that some allies will offer more assistance, possibly as early as the coming week during a series of NATO consultations about how the troop requirements of commanders in Afghanistan might be met. But history has shown that these troop contributions often are incremental, sometimes slow in materializing and frequently with conditions attached.
___
OBAMA: The extra U.S. forces for Afghanistan “will increase our ability to train competent Afghan Security Forces, and to partner with them so that more Afghans can get into the fight. And they will help create the conditions for the United States to transfer responsibility to the Afghans. “
THE FACTS: The problem with Afghan forces is not just their lack of numbers. And it’s not an unwillingness to fight. The problem too often is their effectiveness, once trained for combat. Too many get into the fight but don’t remain or don’t perform.
A major change of approach promised by Obama’s new chief commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, is to partner entire U.S. and NATO combat units with newly fielded Afghan units — large and small — so the Afghans get more exposure to professional military leadership practices and combat tactics. This is an approach that was used to good effect in recent years in Iraq.
___
OBAMA: “In the past, there have been those in Pakistan who have argued that the struggle against extremism is not their fight and that Pakistan is better off doing little or seeking accommodation with those who use violence. But in recent years, as innocents have been killed from Karachi to Islamabad, it has become clear that it is the Pakistani people who are the most endangered by extremism. Public opinion has turned. The Pakistani army has waged an offensive in Swat and South Waziristan. And there is no doubt that the United States and Pakistan share a common enemy.”
THE FACTS: It’s true the Pakistani army this year has launched offensives against extremist elements in the areas cited by Obama. What he did not mention, however, is that the groups being targeted by the Pakistanis are those that threaten the Pakistani government — not those, also based in Pakistan, that are focused on attacking U.S. and Afghan forces on the other side of the porous border with Afghanistan.
Obama administration officials have publicly praised Pakistan for taking on the extremists in Swat and South Waziristan. But they also have made clear that they want Pakistan to put more military pressure on the Afghan-focused extremist groups, which have so far not been confronted on the Pakistan side of the border, other than by airstrikes from unmanned U.S. drones.
Among the groups not yet confronted directly by the Pakistani army is al-Qaida, whose top leader, Osama bin Laden, is believed to be hiding on the Pakistan side of the border.
(WVLT) Monroe County man seeks indictments on President Obama for treason
Assaults, thefts, even murder cases routinely come before the Monroe County grand jury. But today, the small town grand jury heard a big time case against the president of the United States.
MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — Assaults, thefts, even murder cases routinely come before the Monroe County grand jury
.
But today, the small town grand jury heard a big time case against the president of the United States
.
Walt Fitzpatrick is dead serious.
He thinks the president is guilty of treason.
He wanted to take his case in front of the full grand jury.
But when he was only offered a panel of three, there were some fireworks.
“I need to know now. Tell me now what’s going on now? says Walt Fitzpatrick to Monroe County Grand Jury Foreman Gary Pettway.
“Your choice is to go in when we take you in or stay out,” says Pettway.
Taking his case before a three member grand jury panel instead of a full grand jury is not what Walt Fitzpatrick wanted to hear.
“I’m not here to play games with you. What’s the deal?” asks Fitzpatrick.
“You need to calm down,” says Pettway.
Fitzpatrick went to speak to the grand jury panel for nearly an hour and a half but wouldn’t answer reporters questions.
“What do you want to tell them Mr. Fitzpatrick? Anything?” questioned WVLT Reporter Stephen McLamb to Fitzpatrick.
After his appearance he informed supporters they would only deal with the issue of the assistant attorney general and grand jury foreman’s attempts to keep him from presenting his case.
But he maintains President Obama has no legitimate birth certificate
.
“Mr. Obama is an infiltrator. Mr. Obama is my sworn enemy. Mr. Obama is not the legitimate commander in chief,” says Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick hopes to get indictments against the president and his supporters agree.
“Well, I’d love to see it go to the federal level and I personally would love to see him escorted out of the White House in handcuffs,” says Anthony Shreeve.
John Coker says, “Our government has absolutely taken over this country. We the people don’t matter anymore.”
While the grand jury will not deal with Fitzpatrick’s case today, he plans to continue the fight.
“I am sworn to do an obedience to the constitution and do everything I can do to remove him from office, by force of war. And if not, then by force,” says Fitzpatrick.
We’ve requested a comment from the White House but have yet to get a response.
Grand Jury Foreman Gary Pettway says the grand jury’s findings will be revealed December 7th.

Reid slams McCain: ‘Huge, big belly-flop flip flop”
Majority Leader Harry Reid accused John McCain today of a “huge, big belly-flop flip-flop” on healthcare.
McCain offered an amendment that would send the bill back to committee to restore hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare Advantage funds that the legislation would cut to help pay for expanded coverage.
Democrats have pounced on McCain, pointing out that he suggested cutting Medicare Advantage to pay for health reform during the 2008 campaign.
Here’s how Reid responded to a question about McCain’s proposal:
In addition to that, the sponsor of the amendment, during his presidential campaign, talked about cutting these monies. And, in addition to that, he voted for, when the Republicans were in power, an amendment that took exactly that amount of money out of Medicare. So I think he better get his reasoning straightened out, because this is a huge, big belly-flop flipflop, OK?
Republicans responded by pointing out that Reid himself criticized Medicare cuts earlier this year. The Majority Leader called the Republican alternative budget “immoral” for cutting $27 billion in Medicare and Medicaid.
McCain took to the Senate floor to defend himself and fire back at Reid:
Anti-war protesters parade coffin outside White House
WASHINGTON — A handful of anti-war protesters marched outside the White House Tuesday, carrying a coffin to symbolize the demise of health and education reforms sacrificed to a military escalation in Afghanistan.
Dressed in black, in mourning for the fallen US soldiers in the Afghan war, the dozen or so members of Code Pink, an anti-war group composed chiefly of women, staged a peaceful funeral march from the Treasury Department to the nearby White House.
“We are here mourning the misuse of the high tax dollars by President (Barack) Obama and to symbolize that we will be placing things in a coffin that represents the loss of healthcare, the loss of housing, the loss of loans for students,” Code Pink co-founder Gael Murphy told AFP.
Just hours ahead of Obama’s expected announcement about sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, the protesters also carried cardboard tombstones inscribed: “RIP balanced budget,” “RIP human lives,” “In loving memories: universal healthcare”
Formed after the US invasion of Iraq in 2002, Code Pink is highly critical of the war escalation, believing that its cost of a million dollars per soldier per year will siphon tax dollars from domestic reforms and add to an already massive budget deficit.
Despite its low media profile and apparent difficulty in attracting large numbers to their cause, Code Pink is staging other public protests Tuesday in several US cities.
US police shooter killed: sheriff spokesman
Police on Tuesday killed a man alleged to have shot dead four police officers in the northwestern state of Washington, a spokesman for an area sheriff’s department said.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ed Troyer said the suspect, convicted felon Maurice Clemmons, was shot dead by police in a suburb of Seattle.
The Seattle Police Department “came in contact with the suspect” early Tuesday, Troyer told CNN.
“When they came in contact with the suspect, shots were fired and the suspect was shot and killed,” Troyer said.
“The Seattle Police Department is the agency that shot and killed him after the incident occurred,” Troyer added.
Police on Monday said that Clemmons was wounded by return fire after he ambushed four police officers with a handgun in a coffee shop early Sunday near McChord Air Force
base in Tacoma, south of Seattle.
All four officers, members of the fledgling Lakewood Police Department founded in 2004, were married with children.

Police: We’re going after those helping Clemmons Investigators round up suspect’s relatives
Renton, Wash. — The search for the suspect in the Lakewood police shooting led police to a home in Renton on Monday night.
A SWAT team surrounded the home in the 13000 block of Renton Avenue South around 6 p.m. Monday, and a police source confirmed the incident is connected to the Lakewood murders.
Investigators entered the house around 7:30 p.m. Maurice Clemmons was not found inside, but detectives said they were not surprised.
“We didn’t expect him to be here,” said Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer. “We are serving multiple locations to collect evidence against him and against those helping him evade us.”
Troyer said investigators will be serving multiple search warrants throughout the night, multiple locations in multiple cities in an attempt to eliminate anyone aiding Clemmons, “from possible medical aid to giving him money, to hiding him out, to transporting him around.”
“Our ultimate goal is to get him into custody, but a part of that plan going to be to make everybody’s life miserable that’s helping him. And if they want to go down one by one, that’s fine with us,” Troyer said. “And our goal by doing this is to take everybody out of the equation that’s helping him. That way, he’ll have nobody left, and have to fend for himself.”
Troyer also said some of those who have helped Clemmons have tried to mislead police.
“Right now, there’s not a high level of trust in anything that the family says and his friends state,” Troyer said. “We’re aware of that now — that they’re not cooperating with us.That’s why you’re going to see multiple tactical operations.”
No one has been arrested; however, Clemmons’ sister has been taken into custody for questioning.
“We believe the sister drove him up to Seattle, and tried to help him with his wounds, knowing what he’d done,” Troyer said. “And she, at this point, we’re working with.”
Depending on the direction of the investigation, Troyer said the woman could face charges at a later date.
Police on Sunday night searched the home of Clemmons’ aunt, Chrisceda Clemmons. A tipster told police somebody had dropped Clemmons off at the woman’s home in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood.
Chrisceda Clemmons said she doesn’t have a clue why her nephew, Maurice Clemmons, showed up on her doorstep late Sunday night.
But investigators now believe he never went inside. They say they have evidence he walked around the porch then left while nobody was home.
And when Chrisceda Clemmons got home, police swarmed the neighborhood.
Every window of her home was shattered. All night, officers pumped flash-bang grenades and tear gas canisters inside, believing the suspect could be hiding inside.
At dawn, a SWAT team stormed the house. With guns drawn, officers combed the area around the home several times throughout the day.
Chrisceda Clemmons, who was questioned about her nephew and the murder of the Lakewood police officers for 10 hours, says she hasn’t talked with her nephew for some time.
High unemployment means high military recruitment
Paktika Province, AFGHANISTAN – As a construction worker in southern California, says Blaise Counter, life was pretty sweet. Working on what he describes as “corporate millionaire homes,” his $1,300-a- week paycheck allowed him his own luxury – a modest shared apartment in upscale Laguna Beach, where he could surf every day. And there was enough left over to support his 5-year-old daughter by a former girlfriend.
But when the “corporate millionaires” hit the skids in the recession, so, too, did legions of workers – like Mr. Counter – who served them. And that’s how – less than a year after losing his job and his apartment amid the palms – he finds himself today living in a steel shipping container on the front lines of the war in Afghanistan at a tiny outpost along the border with Pakistan.
He signed up for the only steady work he could find – the US Army. Now a private first class, the avid surfer is hundreds of miles from the nearest beach, pulling latrine duty once a week in between dangerous foot patrols and manning mortars. But he’s making about $1,900 a month, tax-free, plus room and board and medical care.
In the mellow singsong of the California surfer patois that adds an oddly cheerful flavor to his momentous decision, he explains: “I have a little girl, so I had to think about her and the possibility of never coming back to her. At the same time you’ve got to pay your bills and you’ve got to keep living.” Counter is among thousands of Americans hit hard by the financial crisis who are finding financial refuge in the military, where in spite of the stark prospect of going to war, the work is steady and the pay and benefits are decent.
Economic hard times are a driving force in what the Department of Defense is calling the best recruitment year since 1973.
“We’re pleased to report that for the first time since the advent of the all-volunteer force, all of the military components, active and reserve, met their number as well as their quality goals.… [T]hat’s the first time that’s been achieved for every component since the start of the all-volunteer force in 1973,” said Bill Carr, head of personnel for the Department of Defense. In his October report on 2009 recruitment, he attributed part of the success to high unemployment rates in the US, in addition to increased spending on recruits and better military salaries.
All Politicians Are Alike: An Open Letter to President Obama from Michael Moore
By Michael Moore
November 30, 2009 — Information Clearing House —
Dear President Obama,
Do you really want to be the new “war president”? If you go to West Point tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8pm) and announce that you are increasing, rather than withdrawing, the troops in Afghanistan, you are the new war president. Pure and simple. And with that you will do the worst possible thing you could do — destroy the hopes and dreams so many millions have placed in you. With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics. You will teach them what they’ve always heard is true — that all politicians are alike. I simply can’t believe you’re about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn’t so.
It is not your job to do what the generals tell you to do. We are a civilian-run government. WE tell the Joint Chiefs what to do, not the other way around. That’s the way General Washington insisted it must be. That’s what President Truman told General MacArthur when MacArthur wanted to invade China. “You’re fired!,” said Truman, and that was that. And you should have fired Gen. McChrystal when he went to the press to preempt you, telling the press what YOU had to do. Let me be blunt: We love our kids in the armed services, but we f*#&in’ hate these generals, from Westmoreland in Vietnam to, yes, even Colin Powell for lying to the UN with his made-up drawings of WMD (he has since sought redemption).
So now you feel backed into a corner. 30 years ago this past Thursday (Thanksgiving) the Soviet generals had a cool idea — “Let’s invade Afghanistan!” Well, that turned out to be the final nail in the USSR coffin.
There’s a reason they don’t call Afghanistan the “Garden State” (though they probably should, seeing how the corrupt President Karzai, whom we back, has his brother in the heroin trade raising poppies). Afghanistan’s nickname is the “Graveyard of Empires.” If you don’t believe it, give the British a call. I’d have you call Genghis Khan but I lost his number. I do have Gorbachev’s number though. It’s + 41 22 789 1662. I’m sure he could give you an earful about the historic blunder you’re about to commit.
With our economic collapse still in full swing and our precious young men and women being sacrificed on the altar of arrogance and greed, the breakdown of this great civilization we call America will head, full throttle, into oblivion if you become the “war president.” Empires never think the end is near, until the end is here. Empires think that more evil will force the heathens to toe the line — and yet it never works. The heathens usually tear them to shreds.

The move towards artificially engineered foods has taken a step forward after scientists grew a form of meat in a laboratory for the first time.
By Nick Britten
Published: 3:18PM GMT 29 Nov 2009
Researchers in the Netherlands have created what was described as soggy pork and are now investigating ways to improve the muscle tissue in the hope that people will one day want to eat it.
No one has yet tasted the product, but it is believed the artificial meat could be on sale within five years.
Vegetarian groups welcomed the news, saying there was “no ethical objection” if meat was not a piece of a dead animal.
Mark Post, professor of physiology at Eindhoven University, said: “What we have at the moment is rather like wasted muscle tissue. We need to find ways of improving it by training it and stretching it, but we will get there.
“This product will be good for the environment and will reduce animal suffering. If it feels and tastes like meat, people will buy it.
“You could take the meat from one animal and create the volume of meat previously provided by a million animals.”
The scientists extracted cells from the muscle of a live pig and then put them in a broth of other animal products. The cells then multiplied and created muscle tissue. They believe that it can be turned into something like steak if they can find a way to artificially “exercise” the muscle.
Person of interest in police slayings compares himself to Jesus and the Messiah
The key person of interest in the Sunday slayings of four Lakewood police officers is a career criminal with a history of violence against law enforcement officers who compares himself to Jesus and the Messiah, and who once received clemency from then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Maurice Clemmons, 37, drifted in and out of the Pierce County Jail four times this year, most recently Tuesday, when he bailed out pending a trial on charges of third-degree assault, malicious mischief and second-degree child rape.
The victim in the rape case was a female relative.
Clemmons has a long history of violent offenses, including crimes against police officers in Arkansas and Pierce County, according to public records and news accounts.
Clemmons has not been arrested or charged in the Lakewood police officers’ deaths. Sheriff’s deputies say he was seen in the area of the shootings Sunday morning. His last known address is about two miles from the scene – a five-minute drive.
Those factors, coupled with his record of scuffles with police, led investigators to hunt for him.
Court records show Clemmons began acting strangely in May, when the incidents related to local charges against him took place. Family members told police about his strange behavior.
“He reportedly thinks he can fly away and at one point was found in the backyard jumping,” a sheriff’s report states. “He says that he is the Messiah and he is going to save the world. He talks about President Obama coming to confirm that he is the Messiah in the flesh.”
7 stories Barack Obama doesn’t want told
Presidential politics is about storytelling. Presented with a vivid storyline, voters naturally tend to fit every new event or piece of information into a picture that is already neatly framed in their minds.
No one understands this better than Barack Obama and his team, who won the 2008 election in part because they were better storytellers than the opposition. The pro-Obama narrative featured an almost mystically talented young idealist who stood for change in a disciplined and thoughtful way. This easily outpowered the anti-Obama narrative, featuring an opportunistic Chicago pol with dubious relationships who was more liberal than he was letting on.
A year into his presidency, however, Obama’s gift for controlling his image shows signs of faltering. As Washington returns to work from the Thanksgiving holiday, there are several anti-Obama storylines gaining momentum.
The Obama White House argues that all of these storylines are inaccurate or unfair. In some cases these anti-Obama narratives are fanned by Republicans, in some cases by reporters and commentators.
But they all are serious threats to Obama, if they gain enough currency to become the dominant frame through which people interpret the president’s actions and motives.
Here are seven storylines Obama needs to worry about:
He thinks he’s playing with Monopoly money

Rosenberg: This Isn’t A Recession, It’s A Depression
David Rosenberg — who has been getting into fights with other pundits left and right — digs in and argues that what we’re really looking at is a depression.
MORE ON THE DEPRESSION
Last week, we received some classic guffaws when we responded to whether
or not the recession has ended with this: “We’re not convinced, but even if it is
statistically over, the depression is ongoing”.
We were reprimanded by former Fed Governor Mishkin for breeding “fear”.
The eyes were rolling among the Squawk Box crew and we were told to tell
that to Mr. Market, who has rallied more than 60% from the March lows
(“artificial” lows, we were told off camera). After all, Mr. Market is so adept at
calling the economy – like the peak in late 2007, literally weeks ahead of what
the polite economics

crowd dubs “The Great Recession”; or how adept Mr.
Market was in calling the 2001 tech wreck; or the three failed attempts at
predicting recovery over the past two years. Mr. Market’s ability at calling the
economy, is shall we say, a tad spotty.
In fact, even with the massive amount of stimulus in modern history, all the
economy could do was muster up a 2.8% annualized growth rate in Q3. If that
number stands, it will go down as just about the poorest bounce off a
recessionary environment on record. History, by the way, shows that 80% of
the time, the opening quarter of the recovery ends up being a pretty good
predictor over the extent of the economic pickup we see in the year that
follows. So, that near 5% GDP growth backdrop being projected by Mr. Market
right now looks to be more than just a tad dubious

Police surround Seattle home where person of interest in police shooting may be hiding
A SWAT team and police negotiators have surrounded a home in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood where the man sought for questioning in the Lakewood police shooting may be hiding.
Police responded to the home at East Yesler Way and 32nd Avenue South around 8:44 p.m. A woman who was leaving the home was stopped by officers and told them Maurice Clemmons was on the property and bleeding, according to a law enforcement source.
The woman told police that someone had dropped Clemmons off at the home.
The source also said police had received tips about two other properties they needed to search, in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood and in Renton.
Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said police are now trying to confirm the identity of the person inside the Leschi home.
“Whether he’s in there or not is yet to be determined,” said Ed Troyer, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman. “We have multiple operations going on … We’ve found evidence of him at other locations and we have several operations going on.”
Police blocked off the street at East Yesler and 30th Avenue South.
Police are telling residents to stay indoors and keep their doors locked.
Police name Maurice Clemmons person of interest in Washington police shootings (video)
On Sunday, police arrested a person of
interest in connection with the execution-style shooting deaths of four Lakeland Police officers in Parkland, Wash.

This photo provided by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department shows Maurice Clemmons, a person of interest in the killing of four Lakewood Police officers in Parkland, Wash. , Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009. The four officers were fatally shot while at a coffee shop in Parkland. Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar identified the victims as Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Ronald Owens, 37; Tina Griswold, 40; and Greg Richards, 42. Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer told reporters that Clemmons, 37, was one of several people investigators want to talk to and that he could not be called a suspect at this point. (AP Photo)
Police want to question Maurice Clemmons, 37, who has an extensive criminal history in both Washington and Arkansas.
According to Seattle PI, Clemmons was recently charged in Pierce County for the rape of a child and third-degree assault on a police officer.
The shootings occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, when a man walked into Forza Coffee and opened fire killing Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswald, 40, and Greg Richards, 42.

Suspect description in multiple police shooting near Parkland
Police investigators have identified three of the four officers. All are from the local area. The fourth officer they are still trying to identify.
Law enforcements from all over the region have responded to the scene. King County Guardian One helicopter is in the area.
The Sheriff’s Department is in the process of notifying next of kin and coworkers.
“We are having a lot of colleagues wake up to this news,” Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The four officers were going over pre-shift paperwork when a man entered the coffee shop and opened fire with a handgun. The baristas and two customers inside were not injured.
The suspect fled on foot after the shooting.
The suspect is described a black male, 5′8 to 5′9 and in his 20s or 30s. He had scruffy facial hair with a black coat and blue jeans. He used a handgun.
There are possibly looking for another person and are searching multiple places, including residences and parking lot, Troyer said at a briefing.
There is no information on the motive for the deadly killing. There was no preexisting threat against the officers.
As of right now, there is no link to the Oct. 31 slaying of a Seattle police officer.
The Sheriff’s Department is setting up a special tips line but for now, anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959. There is a $10,000 reward.
“Our hearts go out to the families,” he said. “One of our main concerns right now is we still have some crazy coldblooded killer or killers on the loose.”
Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said he’s following the developments in the slaying of the four officers.

4 Police Officers Shot Dead Near Washington State Air Force Base
SEATTLE — Four police officers were shot dead in an ambush at a Washington state coffee house, a sheriff’s official said Sunday.
The attack occurred near McChord Air Force Base in Parkland, Wash.
Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer tells Seattle’s KOMO-TV that the officers were hit near 116th Street and Steele Street on the east side of the Air Force base at about 8:30 a.m. local time.
The officers were shot at Forza Coffee, the News Tribune of Tacoma reported.
Troyer told The News Tribune in Tacoma that the officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their computers when the shooter came in Sunday morning.
He says investigators believe the officers were targeted, and it was not a robbery.
Troyer tells the newspaper “it was just a flat out ambush.”
He could not immediately say what agency the officers were from.

Providing Health Care for Illegal Immigrants: Understanding the House Health Care Bill
Abstract: H.R. 3962 would deliberately permit illegal aliens to participate in the government health insurance exchange and in the public option insurance program. It would nominally bar them from receiving health care “affordability credits” and most regular Medicaid benefits, but verification procedures are weak and subject to fraud. Moreover, any limitations on benefits provided to illegal immigrants under the House bill are deceptive. The President and the congressional leadership clearly intend that these limits will be only temporary, to be overturned by amnesty or “comprehensive immigration reform” legislation that will be introduced next spring.
The issue of illegal immigrants and health care reform has drawn considerable attention. During his September 9 address to Congress on health care, President Barack Obama famously declared that “[t]here are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms–the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”[1] The White House subsequently amplified this point, asserting that “[u]ndocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the [health insurance] exchange.”[2]
The health care bill recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R. 3962) clearly and directly contradicts the President’s declarations and promises. Under H.R. 3962:
- Illegal immigrants are clearly permitted to purchase health insurance under the government health insurance exchange created by the bill.
- Illegal immigrants are permitted to receive coverage under the “public health insurance option” created in the bill.
- Illegal immigrants are ostensibly barred from receiving taxpayer-funded “affordability credits” to subsidize their health care, but the verification procedures used to determine the legal status of those who receive credits are weak and subject to fraud.
- The bill expands the Medicaid program. Illegal immigrants are nominally barred from receiving most Medicaid services, but the verification procedures used to determine the legal status of those who receive credits are also weak and subject to fraud.
- All illegal immigrant women who do not have private health insurance and who give birth inside the United States will have the full cost of childbirth paid by the U.S. taxpayers. There will be no effort to have the mother repay any of the cost. Given the fact that nearly 400,000 children are born inside the U.S. each year to illegal immigrant women, these costs could be quite large.
- The bill will provide tax credits to small businesses to subsidize the purchase of health insurance for illegal immigrant employees. Under H.R. 3962, small businesses will be given tax credits to encourage them to purchase health coverage for employees; because firms are not required to verify the legal status of subsidized employees, both legal and illegal employees will receive taxpayer support.
- Illegal immigrants will continue to receive so-called emergency medical service

Responsible citizens should demand an immediate Congressional inquiry intoO Obama’s history. Obama obviously has something to hide.
President Barack Obama continues to embarrass the United States of America with his bowing to heathen emperors, ignorant proclamations and inept appointees. Obama, fawning and inexperienced, described China’s economic growth to a Shanghai student audience as “an accomplishment unparalleled in human history.”
The Chinese, however, are focused on a serious matter: Obama’s irresponsible budget deficit that will cause them to stop buying our debt and bankrupt us. Responsible United States citizens must move to stop Obama before he purposely destroys our economy and nation.
Obama’s actions are purposely intended to bring America to penury. Obama despises everyone who works and is successful. Obama’s lifelong communist indoctrination demands destruction of the United States’ free enterprise economy. Post-destruction desperation is planned to make citizens amenable to submission to total government-bureaucrat domination.
The secreted restrictions of liberty and free choice already written in the Obama health care plan and cap-and-trade legislation confirm Obama’s agenda.
Responsible citizens should demand an immediate Congressional inquiry into Obama’s history. Obama obviously has something to hide. Obama’s campaign spent more than $1.6 million dollars and more than $1 million of Treasury funds to support Obama’s refusal to do what every little leaguer and typical citizen must: show an original birth certificate.
In 2008, Democrats held a congressional hearing challenging U.S. Sen. John McCain’s eligibility as affected by his birth in the Panama Canal Zone. No such inquiry has been made into Obama’s eligibility.
Congress must demand accountability from Obama. How did Obama travel in the 1980s to Muslim lands forbidden to United States passports. Demand to see Obama’s birth certificate, school records, passport, Selective Service registration and financial records.
U.S. District Judge David Carter recently dismissed an inquiring lawsuit stating that only Congress had authority to demand answers and investigate Obama’s past.
Your request is being processed… Recession Sends Older Americans To Food Pantries
ALBANY, N.Y. — Older Americans who were raised on stories of the Great Depression and acquired lifelong habits of thrift now find themselves crowding soup kitchens and food pantries in greater numbers for the first time after seeing retirement funds, second jobs and nest eggs wiped out by recession.
“What we see in line is lots of gray hair, lots of walkers,” said Marti Forman, CEO of The Cooperative Feeding Program in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The help is crucial for many fixed-income seniors, who can’t always keep up with rising food prices.
“It’s a lifeline. It just means that you can function,” said Ronald Shewchuk of Ithaca, N.Y. “Otherwise we would have to sell our house. I don’t know what we would do. Go to an old age home.”
The number of seniors living alone who seek help from food pantries in the U.S. increased 81 percent to 408,000 in 2008, compared to 225,000 in 2006, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Overall, 4.7 million households used American food pantries in 2008, compared to about 3.7 million in 2006.
“Seniors thought they were OK, but they’re not OK,” said Virginia Skinner, director of Development at The Association of Arizona Food Banks in Phoenix, citing the downturn in the area’s housing market.
Catholic Charities USA, which has 170 agencies across the country helping the needy, issued a 2009 third-quarter report that found a 54 percent increase in requests for food and services from seniors nationwide compared to the same period last year.
Despite the increased need, it can be difficult for some older people to come forward and seek help.

Wisconsin counties have a little-known policy that allows forced isolation or quarantine of people using armed law enforcement and deputized civilians
Mike Simonson reports from Superior.
This is to help health officials in a worst-case scenario to contain outbreaks.
Wisconsin statute requires each county to have an isolation and quarantine procedure. The order originated with the Centers for Disease Control from anthrax threats in 2001. But the policy is broader. It includes isolating people infected or even suspected of being infected with a contagious disease such as tuberculosis or in a flu pandemic.
Douglas County Health Officer Deb Clasen says every county health officer in the state can now order that guards be put on infectious people.
“So you put law enforcement by the door to assist with containing and preventing people from exposing other individuals.”
Clasen is quick to say this is only used if voluntary approaches don’t work or are ineffective. Washburn County Sheriff Terry Dryden says this is a tool that may be needed at flu vaccination clinics as well.
“The potential is there for emotion. I want my child or we need the vaccine before anyone else type thing where you could get a little volatile in those areas. I don’t expect any of those kinds of problems. We’re not going to have SWAT teams surround the nurses giving the vaccine.”
The policy also has provisions for a large quarantine facility with restricted public access. Jason Shrader is the director of the Western Region Partnership for Public Health Preparedness in Balsam Lake. He understands the hesitancy to use the “Q” word.
“Although we plan for the worst case scenario, it’s not valuable for a health department to have a policy that looks at end of the world-type scenarios.”
The plans do give people held in forced isolation or quarantine due process to appeal.

FDIC reports biggest drop for business loans on record
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. reported Tuesday that U.S. bank loans fell by $210.4 billion or 2.8% during the third quarter – the biggest drop since the FDIC started keeping records in 1984. Banks booked $2.8 billion in third-quarter profits, reversing a second-quarter loss of $4.3 billion. “We need to see banks making more loans to their business customers,” says FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair. “This is especially true for small businesses.”
Loans to businesses fell 6.5%, and real estate loans plummeted 8.1%.
“Until small businesses are able to borrow, we can’t have a robust economy, because that’s your largest source of jobs,” says Richard Posner, a law professor at the University of Chicago and a federal circuit judge. The Small Business Administration has said that small businesses created 64% of new jobs in the past 15 years.
Banks are reluctant to make new loans until they’ve cleared off the bad ones they made during the housing boom. Back then, they paid “insufficient attention to certain kinds of risky loans,” says Edward Kane, finance professor at Boston College. “You can’t expect them to turn around and turn the lending machine back on.”
Non-current loans rose more than 10% during the quarter to $366.6 billion or nearly 5% of all loans, the highest rate on record. Banks charged off nearly $51 billion in bad loans last quarter, the 11th straight quarterly increase and up more than 80% from a year earlier. “Loan losses will continue to climb as long as foreclosures keep rising and homeowners, builders and developers continue to hurt,” says Kate Monahan, banking analyst at Aite Group.
Obama Treason Charges Advance In Tennessee Grand Jury
By JB Williams Saturday, November 28, 2009
On June 10, 2009 I wrote about formal treason charges filed against Barack Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, in – Is Obama Guilty of Treason? I followed that column up with – Why Commander Fitzpatrick Is NOT Guilty of Mutiny! on June 13. Since then, numerous others have filed similar treason charges against Obama/Soetoro with little or no fanfare…
If Obama is indeed guilty of treason – then we have a growing list of folks who are also committing treason. Namely, every member of law enforcement and the justice system who have taken an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic – along with every individual in Washington DC and beyond who has chosen to look the other way while denying American citizens their day in court – claiming that no citizen has the “legal standing” to ask who in the hell Barack Hussein Obama really is…
After visits from the Secret Service and months of rejection by the courts, Commander Walter Fitzpatrick may get his day in court.
On Tuesday December 1st 2009, Retired Navy Commander Walter Fitzpatrick III will present the evidence behind his treason complaint against Obama/Soetoro to all thirteen members of a Tennessee Grand Jury in Monroe County Tennessee.
The road to justice has been bumpy, to say the least. Commander Fitzpatrick has been ridiculed, blocked in court house halls, threatened, accused of mutiny and labeled a “crackpot” by Obama supporters who see no need for a standard background check for the most powerful office in the world.
Fitzpatrick had to go so far as to file criminal obstruction charges against Grand Jury Foreman Pettway before he would gain access to the court.  Despite it all, Commander Fitzpatrick forged ahead and on December 1st, his complaint will be heard by his local Monroe County Tennessee Grand Jury.
Now, this places the Tennessee Grand Jury squarely in the middle of the biggest Constitutional Crisis in U.S. history. Fitzpatrick will be under oath before the Grand Jury on Tuesday. If the Grand Jury has any doubts about Fitzpatrick’s testimony, they must arrest him for perjury on the spot. If they don’t arrest him for perjury, they are accepting his testimony as true and accurate…
ACORN Document Dump: Trashed Documents Are Relevant to Investigation
by Publius
Have you heard the one about the pimp, prostitute, politician and the community organizer? Well, thanks to San Diego private investigator Derrick Roach, Californians are not laughing at what is turning into a political nightmare for California Attorney General Jerry Brown and ACORN. On Tuesday, November 24, Attorney General Brown appeared on KABC’s “Peter Tilden Show” after it was revealed that some 20,000 documents had been thrown into a National City dumpster by ACORN employees.
The documents were thrown out in advance of state investigators arriving at the local ACORN office to conduct an investigation resulting from national media attention. ACORN employee Juan Carlos Vera was videotaped giving advice to two individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute regarding underage prostitution and human smuggling. Without admitting any wrongdoing ACORN terminated Mr. Vera, or so they said. Documents provided to BigGovernment.com show that Mr. Vera was not terminated but was simply laid off, implying that Mr. Vera is also eligible for rehire. (The document also notes that Mr. Vera was laid off due to “restructuring” related to “videotaping incident.
Did Barack Obama lie about his birth to become President?
As a highly regarded young detective, Neil Sankey was once seconded to elite Scotland Yard units hunting down IRA bombers, dangerous anarchists and organised crime barons.
Today, however, almost 30 years after quitting Hampshire constabulary to become a private investigator in California, he is wrestling with an inquiry that is as controversial as it is complex; one that makes that his former police work seem mundane by comparison.
Now aged 64, and semi-retired, Mr Sankey is attempting to prove that Barack Obama is guilty of the most audacious act of fraud in U.S political history, having become President when he was not even eligible to run for office.
He is conducting his inquiries on behalf of a protest group known as the ‘Birthers’ – so-called because they claim Obama lied about his birth place to satisfy the requirements of the U.S constitution, which stipulates that the President must be a ‘natural born’ American citizen.
According to his biography, Obama was born 48 years ago in Hawaii, the 50th state of the union. But the Birthers are convinced that he came into the world in Kenya, his father’s homeland, and Mr Sankey claims he has already uncovered a great deal of evidence to support this astonishing assertion.
‘As an investigator it has become obvious to me that something very strange is going on,’ he intoned gravely when we spoke this week.
‘His background throws up all kinds of anomalies. It may sound incredible (but) this guy comes from nowhere. No one really knows who he is.’
To most Americans, of course, the very idea that anyone could cheat their way into the world’s most powerful post by rewriting their personal history sounds preposterous.
They dismiss the Birthers as a bunch of crackpot conspiracy theorists and closet racists who still cannot accept a black leader, even though Obama won the election by some 10 million votes.
House Democrats from the Bay Area line up against Obama’s expected troop surge in Afghanistan
WASHINGTON — As President Barack Obama prepares to announce his long-awaited decision on Afghanistan, many war-weary Democrats in Congress are holding their tongues, uneasy about the possibility of a troop surge but wanting to give Obama space to make a defining decision of his presidency.
San Jose’s Mike Honda is not one of them.
“I would oppose it,” said the soft-spoken, unassuming Democratic congressman, who has emerged as a leading voice of progressives in Congress who oppose a troop buildup in Afghanistan.
Though his position is consistent with his liberal bent on most issues, Honda does not relish standing in the way of the man he worked hard to get elected president.
And his dilemma points to a larger difficulty for Obama — resistance among Democrats to a long and increasingly unpopular war, and potentially his first major rift with his own party — should he decide to follow the advice of some top military commanders to send tens of thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan. Such a buildup would cost billions of dollars that Congress must approve.
“It’s not fun,” Honda said of disagreeing with the president. “But trying to go in there with a traditional fighting force I don’t think is going to work.” The current situation, he added, is not unlike that of Vietnam in the 1960s, when the U.S. escalated a war that turned out to be unwinnable.
“If we learned anything from Vietnam, we didn’t.
Liberals Vow to ‘Spank’ Obama for Sending More Troops to Afghanistan
President Obama is days away from announcing a new Afghan strategy, but his immediate battle could come from liberals within his own party who are vowing to “spank” the president for committing tens of thousands of more troops to the eight-year conflict.
President Obama is days away from announcing a new Afghan strategy, but his immediate battle could come from liberals within his own party who are vowing to “spank” the president for committing tens of thousands of more troops to the eight-year conflict.
In a prime-time speech Tuesday from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Obama is expected to announce that he is sending up to 35,000 additional troops to Afghanistan beginning next year.
The figure is short of the 40,000 troops his top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, requested — but enough to anger many congressional Democrats who oppose any potential troop surge, arguing that the mission is too expensive and lacks a clear objective.
“I think there will be some disillusionment within his base,” said Paul Kawika Martin, political director for Peace Action, a grassroots organization, who added that thousands of activists are planning to protest following the president’s announcement.
“We’re going to spank him for sending more troops,” he told FoxNews.com, adding that they may also “thank him” if he announces a quick exit strategy.
The White House has said that the U.S. won’t be in Afghanistan for another eight or nine years. But that won’t satisfy liberals, Martin said.
Even though Obama’s announcement is sure to reawaken the anti-war movement, Martin said, the protests won’t be as intense as they were in the Bush era because the movement has been weakened by the economic recession — some organizations have shed up to 40 percent of staff in the past year, he said — and is distracted by the national health care debate. He also said many members of the movement voted for Obama and trust him more than the Bush administration.
“So you don’t have that same type of anger,” he said.
But without the support of congressional Democrats, Obama will find himself in the awkward position of relying on the support of Republicans who largely oppose his domestic agenda. And he may have to explain how he supports a troop surge in Afghanistan when he opposed one in Iraq two years ago.

‘US warned China that Israel could bomb Iran’
Two senior officials from the White House, Dennis Ross and Jeffrey Bader, made a trip to China on a “special mission” to garner support in Beijing over the Iranian nuclear program, according to a Thursday report in The Washington Post. The officials visited China two weeks before US President Barack Obama arrived in Beijing.
The officials reportedly carried the message that if China would not support the US on the issue, Israel would be likely to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities. The paper quoted the officials as saying that Israel saw the issue as “an existential issue,” and that “countries that have an existential issue don’t listen to other countries.”
They stressed that were Israel to bomb Iran, the consequences for the region would be severe.
The efforts seemed to have yielded results, according to White House officials quoted in the report, as the six world powers, including both China and Russia, put together a resolution critical of Iran’s nuclear program earlier this week.
The development was significant as it groups Russia and China with the four Western powers – the US, Britain, France and Germany – in unified criticism of Iran’s nuclear program. Russia and China have acted as a drag on Western calls for tougher action against Iran.
While the board passed an IAEA resolution critical of Iran in 2006 with the support of all six world powers, subsequent attempts by the West to get backing from all 35 board nations foundered on resistance from Russia and China.
While any board resolution is mostly symbolic, it does get reported to the UN Security Council. Beyond that, unified action in Vienna could signal that both Russia and China may be more amenable to a fourth set of Security Council sanctions on Iran than they have been in past years.
The draft urges Iran to open its nuclear program to wider perusal by the IAEA, they said. As well, it calls on Iran to answer all outstanding questions on that enrichment facility, comply with UN Security Council demands that it suspend enrichment and further construction of the plant, and stop stonewalling an IAEA probe of allegations it tried to develop nuclear weapons.
Obama is about to get outflanked by the GOP on Afghanistan (Bamboozled)
I believe that Republicans are poised to cement their complete opposition to everything Obama and reap a huge political win by twisting their political principles to oppose further escalation of troops in Afghanistan. Unless, of course, Obama can be convinced not to send more troops.
Obama’s decision about whether to send more troops in Afghanistan is expected on December 1st, and he may well be going with an increase of around 30,000 towards a war we don’t have a way to win.
We’ve reached a crucial juncture. More troops to Afghanistan would be a disaster, both over there and politically over here. Can you sign the petition urging Obama to rethink Afghanistan strategy and not send more troops? For every signature we get, CREDO Mobile will generously donate $1 to the blog fellowship that supports Derrick Crowe and his anti-war work. (For a bit more about Derrick’s work, click here.)

Politically, this issue is about to turn on its head. America has a strong anti-interventionist streak, which Republicans lost when George Bush invaded Iraq. A majority of Americans think we should stop sending more troops into Afghanistan. Republicans see an opportunity, a way back to this popular position by opposing Obama, and they’re ready to take it. The writing is on the wall.
In the past few months, more and more influential, movement conservatives have come out against Obama’s policy or future plans for Afghanistan. They hail from all parts of the party – moderate and neoconservative – and from all walks of political life – pundits to elected officials. What they have in common is a skepticism to the idea that the Afghanistan war is worth more troops.
Here’s the rundown:
- Senator Chuck Hagel: “Iraq and Afghanistan Aren’t Ours to Win or Lose”
- Former Presidential candidate Fred Thompson: “The war in Afghanistan ‘has been lost.’”
- Former talking head Lou Dobbs: “Bring our troops home.”
- Conservative columnist George Will in the Washington Post: “Time to get out of Afghanistan”
- Republican Congressman Tim Johnson: “Take immediate steps to begin a responsible withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
- Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher: “We owe [the troops] our best judgment, not just an easy answer of sending more military people into a conflict.”
- Republican Congressman Peter Hoekstra and John Shadegg: “If the Obama administration’s priority isn’t providing our troops with the tools to do the job and win, we shouldn’t be there.”
- Conservative columnist Tony Blankley in Humane Events: “The president has three choices: 1) Cut and run, 2) cut and walk or 3) stay and fight with enough troops. Either No. 1 or No. 3 may be justifiable based on hardheaded thinking. No. 2 is an evasion of reality and sinfully would sacrifice American troops for no good purpose.”
- Richard N. Haass, Council on Foreign Relations president under Bush Sr. and Jr.: “Defining success down on Afghanistan.”
- Conservative columnist Andrew C. McCarthy in the National Review: “Our troops are not in Afghanistan for a social experiment.”
- Malou Innocent and Christopher Preble at the CATO Institute: “U.S. Must Narrow Objectives in Afghanistan”
Though the views represented in the list above are not yet mainstream conservative thought, the list is full of influential conservative thinkers who will have a say in how the party moves forward on the issue. And the list is by no means exhaustive.
If Obama isn’t careful, Republicans will shortly outflank him on the issue. They’ll grab the mantle of non-intervention – a populist position which has large numbers of supporters in both parties – and start appealing directly to the majority of Americans who think we should stop sending more troops into Afghanistan, or even start withdrawing.
That’s why it’s so important progressives stand up on the right side of this issue. Progressives are the anti-war people, and the Democrats should be the anti-war party. Republicans outflanking Democrats on this issue would be disastrous politically as more Americans sour on the war and its leader.
As you know, Derrick Crowe has been writing about getting out of Afghanistan for the last three months because of a blog fellowship The Seminal and Brave New Foundation awarded him. We’ve been fundraising to allow him to continue getting the message out to progressives for another year.
Thanks to blog readers here at Firedoglake/The Seminal, as well as our friends around the web, we’ve raised over $1,000 for Derrick. Now, CREDO Mobile has generously offered to give us $1 for every signature they get on their petition calling for President Obama to rethink Afghanistan strategy and not send more troops.
By signing this petition, you do two things: Make your voice heard to the administration and pressure them to do the right thing on the Afghanistan war, and help support a progressive anti-war voice in the blogosphere, Derrick Crowe.

Thank you for your support. Hopefully together, we can get Obama on the right side of this issue, if not by his announcement than shortly thereafter, before Republicans step up their opposition and grab back the populist, anti-interventionist mantel they lost when George Bush invaded Iraq.
The course in this war must be changed, for the world’s sake, our security’s sake, and for to sake of our continued majority in Congress and the Executive branch.
The President and his legal teams have done everything in their power to prevent anyone from accessing his real birth certificate, if he has one,
President Obama is in a fix over his country of birth.
The President started to dig the hole as Senate candidate and now he is president, the hole is getting deeper and uglier, mainly because of his evasive actions. Many Democrat supporters are either ignoring the problem or are vehemently attacking “birthers” who question the President’s eligibility.
Republicans are not the only ones concerned about his eligibility. Libertarians, independents, constitutionalists and even democrats are wondering why Obama is fighting so hard to hide his origin.
Unfortunately, Obama dug the hole himself, and like a hole created when a water main leaks and then bursts, the hole is expanding day by day and as it does, the fallout is increasing.
The President and his legal teams have done everything in their power to prevent anyone from accessing his real birth certificate, if he has one, but there are other lines of investigation they cannot block.
During his campaign for the Senate, he and his team touted his Kenyan birth, possibly because it made him more appealing to the voters they needed. Unfortunately, admitting to his birth in Kenya makes him ineligible for the Presidency.
So the question now is, was he really born in Kenya and he told the truth in the Senate campaign, or was he really born in Hawaii, and the Kenya story was a lie, used to deceive Illinois voters.
Obama can’t have it both ways. The answer to this question will be interesting!
Of course, he could say the campaign and the reporters all got it wrong, but it will be interesting to follow the trail on this investigation and discover the sources for the AP story that documents the apparent fact that Obama was Kenyan born.
If it wasn’t the truth back then, why didn’t he stop the campaign using that information and why didn’t he make the AP issue a retraction?
Obama supporters who say it is nobody’s business, need to take a step back, imagine the president is George Bush and ask themselves the same question they should ask now. “Is it OK for the President to hide his origin and what are his motives for doing it?”
I want there to be a simple, truthful answer to these questions, but I have a strange feeling the answer is not what any of his supporters wants to hear.

What’s Really In House and Senate Health Insurance Bills
By Ida Hellander, MD
It’s not universal health care. It’s not even close. Insurance companies will be bailed out and millions forced to purchase crappy insurance with government subsidies. Drug costs will soar, the existing safety net wil be slashed and none of the uninsured will be covered till 2013 in the House version, or 2014 in the Senate version. The devil lurks in the details, and there are lots and lots of details
Overall -
- The House bill is completely inadequate in expanding coverage and controlling costs. It is essentially an insurance industry bailout. Most provisions to expand coverage don’t even go into effect until 2013 (2014 in the Senate), after which it still leaves at least 17 million Americans uninsured. The Senate bill would have even less impact, leaving at least 24 million Americans uninsured.
- It forgoes over $400 billion annually in potential savings on overhead and bureaucracy in the health system – enough to cover all 47 million uninsured – by retaining profit-driven private health insurers instead of replacing them with a streamlined, more efficient, Medicare for All system.
- It makes private health insurance mandatory for middle-income working people, forcing them to buy a defective product. It will become a federal crime to be uninsured, with a penalty of 2.5 percent of income, starting in 2013. The fines in the Senate bill are lower, starting at $95 in 2014 and rising to $750 by 2019.
- Families of very modest means, at 200-400 percent of poverty, will be required to spend an unaffordable 8-12 percent of their incomes on insurance premiums if they don’t have employer-sponsored coverage. Additionally, the basic benefits are very skimpy and the cost-sharing requirements are high, meaning that families of very modest means could spend 20 percent or more of their incomes on premiums and cost-sharing before receiving any benefits. In the Senate, the lowest-cost plan would only cover 60 percent of health care costs.

Sen. Conrad Suggests That People Who Don’t Believe in Civilian Trials for Terrorists Should Leave America and ‘Go Somewhere Else’
(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) told CNSNews.com that civilian courts are well-suited to prosecute al Qaeda terrorists and that “if people don’t believe in our system, maybe they ought to go somewhere else.”
Conrad also dismissed a question about the rights of terrorists captured on foreign battlefields and the rules of evidence in terms of a civilian court trial as not serious.
Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Nov. 13 that five suspects in the 9/11 attacks would be tried in a civilian court in New York City instead of facing a military trial.
On Capitol Hill on Nov. 19, CNSNews.com asked Conrad: “We’re going to have a civilian trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. If our troops–the evidence against him is going to be found in Afghanistan, there on the battlefield–if our troops need to enter a house and they think that there’s evidence there, should they have to establish probable cause and get a search warrant from a judge first?”
Conrad said: “You’re not being serious about these questions, are you?”
