2 More Swine Flu Deaths Confirmed In NYC Deaths Total 32 In City Alone Since April -fifth Connecticut resident has died of swine flu.-New Jersey state health officials are reporting the state’s fifth swine flu-related death.

Two more swine flu deaths have been confirmed in New York City, bringing the total to 32 since the outbreak began in April.

The Health Department posted the updated total on its Web site Tuesday.

The city has refused to release details on swine flu victims. The only information released on the two newest deaths was that they were people between the ages of 25 and 65.

As of June 23, the Health Department had recorded 804 hospitalizations and 32 deaths, according to its Web site.

The World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing spread of the influenza A (H1N1) virus on June 11.

A fifth Connecticut resident has died of swine flu.  The Department of Public Health says the patient,  who had underlying medical conditions,  was between  50  and  59 years of age and lived in Hartford County.
One other death has been reported in Hartford County,  and there have been three deaths in Waterbury,  including a six-year-old child.  In each case,  the patient had other health problems and had been hospitalized.
In all 824 cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in Connecticut,  with  36  of those hospitalized.  Health authorities say the total number of cases is likely higher than that,  because those who suffer mild symptoms may never see a physician to be tested.

Officials say she became ill on June 15 and was hospitalized later that day with a cough and fever. She had underlying medical conditions.

The four others in New Jersey who have died from the virus include a 36-year-old Union County man, a 15-year-old Somerset County boy, a 10-year-old Sussex County boy and a 49-year-old northern New Jersey man.

  4. Interesting stuff. Did you hear that there’s a new strain which is resistant to the anti-flu drugs? Tamiflu etc? Found a really good website for tracking it’s progress, seems to be updated every hour or so… http://www.swinefludeaths.co.uk.
